Terms of Service

1. The service

Mycelium is a communication platform providing real-time messaging, voice and video calling, cloud storage, and collaborative documents. It is offered as-is, currently in beta, and is operated by Carbonlab, a FOSS collective.

Because Mycelium is in beta, features may change, break, or be removed without notice. We do our best to keep the service running, but we cannot guarantee uninterrupted availability.

2. Your account

• You must be at least 13 years old (or the minimum digital-consent age in your country) to use Mycelium.
• You are responsible for keeping your account credentials secure.
• You are responsible for all activity that happens under your account.
• You must provide a valid email address for authentication and account recovery.

3. Acceptable use

When using Mycelium, you agree not to:

• Break the law or use the service for illegal activity.
• Harass, threaten, or abuse other users.
• Share content that is illegal, or that infringes on someone else's rights.
• Distribute malware, spam, or attempt to compromise the security of the service or its users.
• Attempt to disrupt, overload, or gain unauthorized access to our infrastructure.
• Impersonate others or misrepresent your affiliation with a person or organization.

We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these rules.

4. Your content

You retain full ownership of the messages, files, and documents you create on Mycelium. We claim no rights over your content. We only store and process it to the extent needed to provide the service to you and the people you communicate with.

You are solely responsible for the content you post and share. See our Privacy Policy for details on how your data is handled.

5. Servers & communities

Servers on Mycelium are managed by their creators and moderators. If you own or moderate a server, you are responsible for the community you host and for enforcing acceptable use within it. Mycelium may intervene in cases of clear abuse or illegal activity.

6. Platform moderation & reports

In addition to server-level moderation (section 5), Mycelium's platform moderators may take platform-wide action - including deleting content or suspending an account - where there is clear abuse, illegal activity, or a violation of these terms that a server's own moderators cannot or do not address.

• Anyone can report a message or account they believe violates these terms.
• If your account is suspended, you'll see the reason and, if applicable, when the suspension ends. Temporary suspensions are lifted automatically once they expire.
• We moderate sparingly: platform-wide suspensions are reserved for clear, serious violations of these terms.

7. Storage limits

Cloud storage is subject to quotas (currently 15 GB per user and 5 GB per server). These limits may change as the service evolves. We may remove content that exceeds your quota after giving you reasonable notice.

8. Open source & licensing

Mycelium is free and open-source software. The source code is available on GitLab and is distributed under its published FOSS license. These terms cover the hosted service we operate — the software license governs the code itself.

9. Disclaimer & liability

Mycelium is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind. To the maximum extent permitted by law, Carbonlab is not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of, or inability to use, the service — including loss of data or content.

10. Termination

You may delete your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate your access if you violate these terms. When your account is deleted, your data is handled as described in our Privacy Policy.

11. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms as the service evolves. When we make significant changes, we'll update the date at the top of this page. Continuing to use Mycelium after changes take effect means you accept the updated terms.

12. Governing law & disputes

These terms and the operation of the service are governed by Belgian law. Any dispute that cannot be resolved amicably falls under the jurisdiction of the competent courts of Brussels, Belgium. If you are a consumer, this does not deprive you of the protection afforded to you by any mandatory provisions of the law of the country in which you are habitually resident, nor of your right to bring proceedings before the courts of that country.
